Brexit and the City28 February 2017
We have many clients who are in senior positions in the City. Their take on what their companies will do in a post-Brexit world is obviously of interest. Are they planning to decamp to Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt? En masse? Absolutely not. An increase on recent years? Maybe.
There are common threads. First, the City has an infrastructure that would take any competitor in Europe years to replicate. Secondly, the employment laws in all the alternatives are very unattractive (our own experience of having a business in France is 'never again'). And thirdly, life in Frankfurt would be comparatively - how do you put this nicely? - dull.
If the City decamps anywhere - it will probably be to New York.
