Brief

Our clients, three siblings purchasing together with their families, were looking for a substantial working farm capable of supporting a multi-generational lifestyle. Their brief called for at least 300 acres of farmland, multiple residential properties and the flexibility to accommodate different generations while preserving the estate's long-term farming potential. Identifying a property of this scale and complexity, while balancing the family's differing requirements, presented a significant challenge.

Result

Following a nearly three-year search and acquisition process, we secured an exceptional Herefordshire farm extending to more than 580 acres. Purchased across two lots, the estate included a principal house, a farmhouse and five cottages, comfortably exceeding the original brief. Carefully negotiated agreements allowed the previous owner to remain in the main house for a limited period following completion, while the tenant farmer continued to farm part of the land during the transition. Within 6–12 months of completion, our clients took full ownership of the two principal houses and assumed responsibility for the farming operation, while the cottages remained tenanted.

Your Unfair Advantage

This was an exceptionally complex transaction involving multiple properties, extensive agricultural land, tax considerations and phased occupation arrangements. Our expertise in managing intricate rural acquisitions enabled us to coordinate the legal, commercial and practical aspects of the purchase while protecting our clients' interests throughout. By negotiating a structure that worked for all parties, we successfully secured a rare multi-generational estate that would have been difficult to acquire without specialist advice
